So what are YOU doing while sheltering-in-place for the fifth consecutive month this year? ? ? Perhaps you are learning to use your online resources more??? Some of us seniors are struggling to learn how to use Skype and Zoom for online gatherings with our friends and family, “seeing” those precious grandchildren that you cannot be with in person.  Other online users are posting photos on Facebook and Instagram to share.  A friend of ours confided that he found his gorgeous new power boat on Craig’s List, of all places. You will be thrilled to learn that you can now purchase items from the Assistance League® of Greater Placer Thrift Shop using another great online tool ………

Isn’t it fascinating that our minds are so incredibly resourceful, even when we cannot expose our bodies to the outside world as easily as we used to?  The internet is an equally fascinating venue for those creative minds to convert former, no-longer-viable practices, into new and TOTALLY VIABLE means to an end.  Here’s an example: With extra time on our hands, many folks are staying busy cleaning outdated belongings out of closets, drawers, garages and attics, eager to create more space and re-purpose those items for others to use.  However, at the same time, restricted hours for donating to the Thrift Shop (Wednesday and Friday from 10am – 2pm), restricted times open to the public due to “woman-power” shortages, and limited space to store generous donations have taxed the energies of our hardworking member volunteers.

Thus a new idea has been born!  Our Chapter now has another option for reselling donations –  our new online eBay Store!  A wide variety of items are posted in the eBay Store, such as original collectibles, rare books, vintage dolls, gold jewelry, or even home décor and furnishings which can more readily find their new owners on our Ebay Store, bringing in better prices than if they were displayed in a thrift shop. In other words, we are reaching out to a national, possibly a global market of potential buyers! EBay coaches us with starting price suggestions, the history of what similar items have sold for, or whether the market is flooded with certain items. Here’s just a small sample of the kinds of items you can find in our eBay store!

Jan Mclean Paige Doll in box 51/3500

Hull Art USA Pottery Vase

Swarovski Flying Bird Brooch

Carpet Bag C.1920s Vintage Bag

Our volunteers select items to post in our eBay Store, handle the bidding, shipping and postage. And you can even pick up items at the Thrift Shop and save on shipping fees! Find out for yourself how donated items are being sold on eBay to maximize the charitable donations to our Thrift Shop that help many local Placer County community needs. And explore the possibility of shopping for that special something in the comfort of your own home!  Check our store often for newly added items. https://www.ebay.com/usr/algreaterplacer
