ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® OF GREATER PLACER FUNDS COME FROM . . .

“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.”       Sherry Anderson

It’s no secret that our 100% volunteer nonprofit Thrift Shop supports many Placer County community needs in a HUGE way.  But perhaps not everyone realizes that the Assistance League Thrift Shop in Auburn, CA, our primary fund-raiser, involves a whole lot more than simply hanging clothes on the rack for sale.  Hundreds of women scramble 24/7 to generate funds for advanced education scholarships, food for the hungry, safety for women and mothers plus clothing to help those in need.  And GENERATE FUNDS they do!

Outside our Thrift Shop doors, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11am – 3pm, you’ll find racks of useful clothing priced at just $1.00 each.  DOLLAR RACK patrons know that these mark-downs cannot be beat!  Clothing inside the Thrift Shop doors is conveniently sorted seasonally, so shoppers can always find lighter shirts and dresses in the Summer, while counting on warmer sweaters, pants and jackets in the cooler months.  Shoes are also displayed seasonally, and someone is cleaning and sizing them day in and day out.  Someone is also laundering soiled donations so that they are fresh for their new owners, while someone else irons or steams the wrinkles out.  Other “someones” wash dishes, glassware, gifts and appliances before they reach the shelves. You get the picture?  There are A LOT of “someones” who want our community of shoppers to feel happy, safe and satisfied with their purchases.

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THE PARKING LOT SALE which is held just outside the Thrift Shop doors.  EVERYTHING is on sale for 50% off already bargain-basement prices.  NOT JUST CLOTHING, but lots of treasures and bargains.  SAVE THE DATE!

Profound gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers who contribute their time day after day, month after month, to raise funds for our many and growing number of community philanthropies. For assistance with this month’s blog, much gratitude to Joanne Kutzman, Carol Eder, Janice Noland, Elisa Montes and Susan Pipkin.

  1. Volunteers ARE priceless. The talents and hard work of all these “someones” are remarkable. Every time I walk into the thrift shop, I am dazzled by the presentation of all the treasures. The space looks different and inviting each time. There truly would be no amount of salary that could compensate for the value of work these volunteers do. From sorting the bags and boxes of donations that arrive weekly to cleaning and presenting and then displaying…it is phenomenal. Everything that is done is in order to make a real difference in the lives of people in our community.
Bravo and thank you, Assistance League of Greater Placer and the amazing women that put caring into action.
